To people in the industry, the Denver metro area makes a logical nexus for meat substitute brands.
When Annie Ryu, founder and CEO of Jack & Annie’s, began hiring for her startup making nuggets, sausages and other meat-like products from whole jackfruit, the first major hire came from Boulder. The Harvard University graduate had been establishing the business in Boston but soon relocated the startup to Boulder because the more she learned about the area’s business community the more it seemed like a better fit for her startup.
“It was apparent to me this is a place that’s very passionate about this, and Boulder is a hub for the natural food industry,” Ryu said.
